Budget Wedding Flowers
There is no need to look further than your own backyard or the countryside surrounding your house, than to get inspired and find materials that will make your wedding unique. And don’t worry about following any set rules or regulations regarding decorations at your wedding – after all, it is your wedding and you can do and plan exactly what you like.
Using natural “found” materials for your budget wedding flowers is a beautiful way to go, whether they are literally found in your backyard, or bought at a craft store. A start to your decorations can be thin twigs. The ones at a craft store are often called salt twigs because they have little nubbins along the stems which give them an interesting texture. Put varying heights of these into clay pots, anchored by floral foam or just plain pebbles, and place them as your table centerpieces. The branches can be decorated with silk butterflies or dried flowers or seed pods. The look can be eclectic but staying within a color scheme will pull it together.
A beautiful look for the entrance to your reception would be an arbor created by natural branches and tied into a curve (at least seven feet tall so that guests will not snag their hair), and decorated with either real flowers bought at a wholesaler, or silk flowers bought from the craft store. You could go either multi colored with this or tonal. Lavender or white flowers would be beautiful, but use your favorite.
If you are leaning towards real dried flowers and plant parts like seedpods for your budget wedding flowers, using earth tones blended together would look lovely as your bouquets and even men’s corsages. Starting with a seedpod, you can entwine the stem and other leaves and dried flowers together then cover the stems with florists’ tape. Insert a safety pin into the back (large one preferred) and then the corsages would be ready, and look great.
Another great centerpiece for your table could be just flower heads floating in glass bowls (bought inexpensively at the craft store). These could probably be obtained at no charge from a florist who just doesn’t want to throw them away, and would like them to go to a good cause. The water in these bowls could be tinted, and provide additional color to your tables. Also, various sizes and shapes of glass containers could be bought at a thrift store. This would provide uniqueness to each centerpiece.
If you want fresh stemmed flowers (again, buy them from a wholesaler), but would like to make them go further in your budget wedding flowers scheme, consider using other plant materials to stretch them out. Perhaps fresh bamboo stems amongst orchids could be used, or consider cuttings from a flowering fruit tree in a large vase for a floor display. Putting real fruit that would actually grow on those branches later in the year, would be a surprising delight to many. Of course, grapefruit or other ungainly fruit is not wise, and could look unsightly. Just make sure that the fruit is balanced in relationship to the branches and display, or your budget wedding flowers arrangement may tip over!
If you take some time and look around, outside of your home or elsewhere, creating the decorations for your wedding could be an extremely uplifting experience. Be sure and plot out how many decorations and arrangements you need on paper, first, so nothing will be left to chance and you can then gather up all of the necessary materials and start the rewarding and creative process.
